Post and Beam & Timber Frame Raising, Very Exciting!

Let's RAISE your Timber Frame!

Now this is the most exciting part, the raising of your post and beam frame (my opinion of course)! The crew at Vermont Timber Works takes as much pride and care in their raisings as they do in fabrication and assembly. The handcrafted quality shows. Take a look at some of my personal favorite timber frame raisings...Our Brigham Hill Barn.

The Charney Residence Post and Beam Home was my first raising. It was so fun to watch and I learned so much about our traditional joinery. Coordination between the crane and the Vermont Timber Works team needs to be right on!
Here is our Kenny Stable Horse Barn, which can be found on Martha's Vinyard. These lucky horses are surrounded by beautiful douglas fir timbers, planed & chamfered for a smooth and classic look.

If you like something a bit more rustic, take a look at our Sand's Barn. This post and beam party barn features rough sawn and weathered hemlock timbers. AND traditional joinery, of course!
This last photo is a great one. Mikey hammering in those joinery pegs. Great job Vermont Timber Works.

Post and Beam Construction in February in Vermont? Of Course.

In the snow? Of course!

The snow banks at Vermont Timber Works are much higher than in the above picture...and we are getting more snow. (We do not need any more snow)! The guys have been out working in this lovely weather, take a look. Some timber trusses and cupolas are just to big to be assembled in our shop.

Like this timber frame cupola in rough sawn hemlock timber for the Ferrisburg Town Hall Project. Fully assembled in our front door yard, it was great entertainment for Sue and I.

Loaded up and ready to go. Great job guys! It was very cold and windy that day. Below we have some of the Spruce Peak Custom Timber Trusses, 52ft long in douglas fir creating an 80ft span!
What do you think Ruby, are you chilly? Let's go back in.

Vermont Timber Works, post and beam construction continues throughout this snowy February & probably snowy March!

So you want a new BARN? How about a Post & Beam Barn?

So many styles, so many choices! When you build a custom post and beam barn. At Vermont Timber Works not only do you get a custom designed and engineered barn, it's also hand crafted. No CNC machines in our shop.

Traditional joinery, mortise & tenon with hardwood pegs, dove tails, shoulder joints...now you're talking. Need some steel joinery? Vermont Timber Works offers steel joinery also. Sometimes you see the steel and sometimes you don't.

Weathered hemlock timbers were chosen for the barn shown above. Hand hewn timbers are a wonderful way to make your new barn look like it's been around for many years. Hewn with an adze or chisel, below is the result in white oak.

Whether it be horse barn, storage barn, garage barn, residence barn, party barn or a multi-use barn...if post and beam construction interests you, give Vermont Timber Works a call. 802-886-1917 We would love to hear from you.

Post & Beam Construction @ its Finest!

The custom designed post and beam home, it doesn't get much better than this in our eyes. Timber in rough sawn native hemlock with an extra sanding process. (removing the sweater catchers) Love that chandelier!

Custom designing give you so many options, and so many choices. You are not locked into a pre-designed or pre-engineered frame at Vermont Timber Works. Whether it be a very rustic look in hand hewn pine, or a more finished look in planed & chamfered douglas fir, or something in the middle. If a quality, custom designed, hand crafted timber frame, Vermont Timber Works is the company for you. Call us 802-886-1917.

Our Post & Beam TEAM...Vermont Timber Works!

Do you have a dream of a post and beam constructed home, barn or building? If so, I would like you to meet the team at Vermont Timber Works. We all work very closely together to make sure that your post & beam dream comes true! Would you like to meet our team? If so keep on reading, if not, just head for the timber framing photos!

Dan & Doug are the owners of Vermont Timber Works, and they are both very hands on. Between the shop drawings and design, material orders and layout on the timbers & financial, they do it all.

Pete is our professional engineer, involved in the preliminary engineering, through out the design and he gets to put his stamp on all of our timber frames.

Rick, our estimator, has been working with Doug & Dan for 20 years. You should hear them when they start joking around, it's great. Rick also does layout and pretty much everything! Most recently Rick has been working on many estimates for Sue and I, the John Mazur project as well as Spruce Peak.

Vermont Timber Works shop crew consists of Mikey, James, Kellin, Todd, Jason, Stephen & Mike. The same guys that cut and finish your frame are the ones raising your frame. Thanks to all of you that let me take those project photos....!!

Megan & Denise handle all of the administrative, keeping all the important things in order and organized. Sue & I work in sales, searching for the new projects and coordinating the ones on the boards. That's us and we would love to be part of your post and beam project.

The Post & Beam Church & Chapel...

Post and Beam Construction, shown here in our Veterans Memorial Chapel. Using native pine and hemlock timbers and steel rods in the girder trusses, this little chapel is very pretty. Located in Randolph, Vermont, overlooking a valley, with a breathtaking view.

Our Immaculate Conception Church located in Nashua, NH has a very different look & feel. Arched timber trusses in Douglas Fir and supported by a steel frame. Gorgeous post and beam church!
